Sweet & Sour Stew

  • 1 1/2 lbs. stew meat, cubed
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 cup onion, sliced
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 tsp. corn starch
  • 1 package egg noodles
  • butter
  • poppy seeds


  • In a large pot, add oil. Brown the stew meat. 
  • Add the onions, carrots, tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, water, and salt.
  • Cover and simmer on low until tender, about 2 hours.
  • About 30 minutes before stew us finished. Prepare the noodles according to package directions. Drain.
  • In a large bowl, place the cooked noodles. Add butter and poppy seeds to taste and combine.
  • In a small container, combine cornstarch with 1/4 cup cold water. Add to stew. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
  • Serve the stew over the noodles.
